Houston is very similar to Florida environmentally with one significant
difference. Florida is mostly
residential and Houston is very strong commercially. Statistically insurance companies claim
that Texas is the number one state for lightning damage insurance claims, and
Florida is number three. There is a
reason for this. In Florida we have
been hit very hard by Hurricanes over the years. Most residents, and business
are afraid to put a claim in for fear of loosing their insurance or their
premium increases. Like Florida,
Houston does have it’s share of lightning damages. Personally I have over 25 years experience
trouble shooting everything under the sun, from military installations,
munitions dumps, theme parks, hospitality Industry, high rises, malls,
assisted living facilities and so on.
Even in Saudi Arabia (middle east) in the desert on one of the most
unlikely regions to trouble shoot lightning issues. I am well versed on Lightning Protection on
the roof, as well as all the electrical and electronic equipment inside the
building. A growing need is to pay attention to Back up Generator issues. Sure it is a good idea to have back up
Generators, but for every action there is a reaction and back up Generators
can do damage to electronic equipment if the equipment is not properly
protected for that issue which is totally unrelated to surge suppression. I
can specify the technology that will deal with these special issues. You would think, that all security companies that learns how to do surge
suppression and power quality on all security systems should not need a
professional like me, but electronics in general is not a cookie cut out
project. No one project or site is the
same. There is always that one site
out there that will perplex even the most knowledgeable in the security
business. That is why they might at
times recommend someone like myself to help them out. Granted that Classic Protection Systems Inc
has rarely used my services because Curtis himself is a Professional Engineer
and might I add extremely knowledgeable in this area for many years. I have trained him well. Curtis does not specialize in other areas
that are affected plus you did not know that I existed until now. On the other hand, there may be other equipment that is experiencing
serious issues other then security such as phone systems, HVAC systems,
NC/CNC equipment, automation equipment, high speed modem, 100BASET or
internet issues, computer issues, and arc welding equipment just to name a
few. I have recently been exposed to
Honeywell’s RS485 automation equipment for HVAC and other automated equipment
and they too have issues. I have seen
elevators get into trouble as well as be the problem for security
systems. I have seen lightning
protection systems on building that are the cause if lightning damage issues
with electronic equipment inside the building. I have also interceded on behalf of security companies to explain to
endusers that they are the cause of destroying their own equipment
unknowingly. I understand this may not set well with the enduser but I have
provided education to that effect that enlightens what needs to be done in order to prevent it from happening
again. To understand the cause and
effect is more important then actually the cure. The cure will naturally follow
in it’s own accord. Most professionals such as yourself are in administrative positions with
either a Masters or BA degree in Business, Accounting or Marketing, with
little understanding the electronic complexity or design of your computer or
any electronic device. Sure you know how to minuplate the software but do you
respect the hardware you are using?
So it is extremely hard to give a true value of what you own or
manage. I try to explain it too you in laymen's terminology it’s complexity
with comparison. What I do, is a science and the faster, the smaller, the
cheaper our technology gets, the more you need someone like me to help you
keep it. Remember, when you make
something in any business you want repeat business so electrical/electronic
technology is no different. Most of
what we use is not strong as it was in earlier years, that means it will
expire faster, quicker and will be replaced more often. I can help you keep what you bought or use
