ETL/UL listing is extremely important but more importantly is getting the right surge suppression for your electrical panel.

For years electricians have installed lightning arrestors, and they charged an arm or a leg for a $25.00 item. In some cases due to the ineffectiveness of the product has been outlawed by the State of Florida.  In fact lightning arrestors is not mention in the new NEC code listing under surge suppression.  The code stipulates, if any modification, changes or adding additional lines to a electrical panel, a Type 1, or Type 2 surge suppressor shall be installed.  The operative word is shall, not maybe, but must be done to adhere to code.

We recommend Lectra Shield products in all surge suppression needs.  Lectra Shield has a long rich history in the surge suppression manufacturing which includes the ever popular name of E/clips and Stormin Protection Products Inc. Lectra Shield has been around since 1989, and has gone through all the UL requirements and changes over the years as subcontracted by their respective Name brands. In most cases, these surge suppression are repairable if damaged and offer a five year warranty while others are a one shot.  Average cost of the Surge suppressors is approximately $500.00 Retail. You also have a electrical installation or removal cost $150.00

There is a brand to look for as recommended by most insurance companies as being unsafe, who require that you take the surge suppressor off the panel. That particular brand is call Sycom and has recently gone out of business.  It is deemed unsafe and has had a history of catching on fire and plus the entire buildings have burnt to the ground.  In Bradenton and Sarasota area alone there are many Sycom Surge suppression devices installed, and they must be removed for your own safety. You also have a electrical installation or removal cost to consider $150.00
